Dr Lesley Likens Osteopath
Lesley holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) from Victoria University in Melbourne. She has been part of the Castlemaine community for over 15 years, and provides remedial massage and osteopathic consultations from her cozy home clinic just a stone’s throw from The Mill and Botanical Gardens.
Lesley brings a unique skill set to her osteopathic practice, having a background both as a successful chemical engineer and remedial massage therapist. She left engineering to raise a family, and while doing so, embarked on her remedial massage career. Both previous undertakings along with a bit more formal study now enable her to provide her unique osteopathic approach to the local community.
Lesley utilises a prodominantly direct hands-on approach for treating areas of dysfunction, but she also employs gentler indirect methods when the primary goal is to to calm down the nervous system’s pain response. She couples her treatments with providing education around the propensity for injury and empowering active involvement in successful recovery.
Lesley enjoys working with a wide variety of everyday people, regardless of age, profession or lifestyle. Manual trader or professional desk jockey, new parent or newly retired, sports novice or weathered weekend warrier, Lesley will help you understand how aspects of your lifestyle in your home, sport and work life, may be predisposing you to fatigue and injury.
Lesley will work with you to learn to recognise your body’s niggling whispers before they become all out screams, arming you with a plan of attack. This includes a combination of hands-on osteopathic treatment, general physical activity advice, targeted rehabilitation and strengthening prescription.
In addition to her formal osteopathic and remedical massage training, Lesley has undergone further studies in myofascial and trigger point cupping, dry needling, and manual lymphatic drainage techniques.
Outside of osteopathy, Lesley enjoys distance trail running, playing the piano, singing and spending time with her two children.
Lesley provides treatment on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays. Evenings & weekends arranged upon request.
